A summary of the evidence for the individual logia sayings

Introduction

In previous pages I have described in essence how I first identified the individual logia sayings, starting with the source doublets and using these sayings as a template to find the others. In 2021 I found a more consistent way in which the remainder can be identified. It involves seeking at least one of three more or less independent characteristics. These are: the presence of a saying in a synoptic sayings block, Semitic poetry (indicated by the presence of parallelism), and hyperbole.

Notes on the tables below

The presence of one of the letters S, K, P, H in one of the columns after the saying's label indicates that the respective evidence (a source doublet, presence in a sayings block, poetry, or hyperbole) is exhibited in version(s) of the saying in one or more synoptic gospels. Although my detailed investigation of the logia sayings started with the source doublets, the tables show that no logia saying is solely attested by its presence in a source doublet.
The order in which the sayings are presented here, the total number of sayings, the division into four sections (represented here by four tables), and the identifications in the first column, are all explained on the next web page.
